Call of Duty the Movie?

The renowned Call of Duty video game franchise is easily amongst the most cinematic of any. The follow up to the breakout contemporary spin-off Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has fan boys and regular guy gamers alike tight with desperate anticipation. I’m one of them. Something else has me excited though — there are whispers of the epic war shooter “being talked about for the big screen”, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
Call of Duty as a movie…hmm. I’d say go the Modern Warfare route. There are enough World War II movies flooding the market but not enough modern war films that smack of awesomeness. I’m thinking Saving Private Ryan set in 2010.
The game’s publisher Activision has filed a trademark on Sept. 21 for Call of Duty to be a film, reports patent filing blog Trademork. Now that doesn’t mean that a big screen adaption of COD is a go but it is a major step in the development process. It seems like a good idea but knowing the horrible success rates of video games going Hollywood I’ll wait until I see a trailer.
In related news, a new two-minute trailer for Modern Warfare 2 dropped recently. The game is due out November 10th for all major game systems.
Check it out.
